EX SILENTIO
Where Forms emerge from the Shadows.
A Journey into the Space Within.
The Ex Silentio publication gathers the outcomes of a creative project still on its way.
At its origin there is no plan, but an absence.
The author chooses places where time has deposited layers of meaning, such as a convent, a historic garden, a villa, and enters them with no intention to impose. He listens.
The gesture is reduced to almost nothing: a line on the page, as wide as a breath.
Here silence is not a lack of sound, but a measured space, a limit within which form can appear. Like a threshold, like the wall of a cell, silence does not separate: it gives an inside to what would otherwise disperse.
The blank sheet receives the mark as water receives its surroundings, without holding them.
The mark does not represent; it bears witness.
It is a trace of memory surfacing from a distant, dark depth like a flash of light, and little by little it takes shape, finding its own measure in relation to the space that welcomes it, to the white that surrounds it, to the place it comes from.
The author does not build: he lets things emerge.
His “scribble” is the first stammering of a language that precedes thought, a fragment of unconscious memory, a response of the hand to its environment.
In this exchange, place and author recognize one another: the stratifications of history find an echo in those within, and what was given (the stone, the green, the light) is fulfilled in what is drawn.
Thus Ex Silentio is not a collection of forms or objects, but the account of a slow revelation, in which form is born from silence and silence, in turn, becomes form.
